It’s official, the date for the 2nd annual Gran Fondo Moab is May 14, 2011. We’d like to send out a big “thank you” to everyone who attended, you made this next one possible.

    Thanks to everyone for coming out to the first Gran Fondo Moab. The ride turned out to be great other than the cold weather. We can assure you that this is not the normal weather patterns that we get in May. Keep checking the website as we will post the dates for the 2011 event soon. We will also have an early bird registration discount. For 2011 we are looking at having jerseys and socks available for sale.

    GRAN FONDO MOAB IS ONLY 10 DAYS AWAY*

    Thanks for registering or inquiring about the 1st annual Gran Fondo Moab. We are working super hard to make this an event that you will come back to next year and spread the word. Our website at www.granfondomoab.com will get updates as they come up, so continue to check back.

    **If you are a vegetarian, email me to put your order in for a Vegi panini for lunch. Lunch will be served by the great folks from Love Muffin Cafe.

    Here are some inportant reminders for ALL riders:

    Scheldule

    Friday April 30, 3pm-9pm Mandatory Packet Pick Up.  (Moab Swanny Park/behind Poison Spider Bicycles) We cannot do packet pick up on Saturday before the event. There is no last minute registration. Registration ends April 29th at midnight. Let your friends know to register ASAP. You will get a T-shirt if you registered before April 23, as I ordered extras.

    Saturday May 1, 7 AM Gran Fondo Moab MASS Start at Swanny Park.  Remember that the Start is in town and the Finish is about 5 miles outside of town at Old City Park. There will be an Aid Station and Lunch at the Finish.

    *Route Time Limits:  6 Hour Time Limit (7am-1pm). The Course is open from 7am- 1pm with timing. If you leave before 7am you will not get a result or time. If you do not make it to the Finish Line before 1 PM your time will be listed as 6+ Hours.  The finish is on a closed portion of road which we need to have re-opened to traffic by 1 pm.  All Sag Wagon and Police support will remain on the course after 1 pm to help any riders.

    Prizes: KOM and QOM will each win a set of brand new road wheels:

    1st Male: Bontrager RXL Scandium Wheelset

    1st Female: Mavic Ksyrium Elite Wheelset

    2nd Place Male and Female each get $125.00

    3rd Place Male and Female each get $75.00

    4th Place Male and Female each get $50.00

    5th Place Male and Female each get a set of Vittoria Open Corsa Evo tires

    We are encouraging you to RACE to the Top- Geyser Pass Road turnoff. There is a super steep curvy downhill after that. We DO NOT want you to take risks with your speed on this section. You will NOT win anything! Please descend safely and in full control and remember there will be oncoming traffic on the entire 20 mile downhill until just before the finish.

    There will be no prizes awarded for your time at the finish, only for the top five male and female riders to the top. (Geyser Pass Road)  All other prizes will be used in the raffle, so everyone gets a chance to win.

    Safety: Ride with Caution- there are catlle guards, potholes and some area’s of loose gravel to look out for. DO NOT RIDE ABOVE YOUR LIMITS. The route will be on open roads with two way motorized traffic. Cyclist’s must obey traffic laws at all times. There will be a STRICT center line rule. We have a rolling closed road from town to the Castle Valley- Loop Road turnoff. If you fall behind the last Utah Highway Patrol vehicle on this section, please ride single file. It will be a neutral start from town until HWY 128. Once on 128 it is game on!

    A reminder- NO HANDUPS (water or food). You must use the aid stations for food and water. We want to minimize the amount of traffic on the Loop Road.  Please do not have anyone out on the roads for any type of support.

    ALL RIDERS will get a course map with mileage details of course hazards and aid stations.

    Sunday May 2, 9 AM Fun Day- Enjoy all the great adventures Moab has to offer.Come by Swanny Park and demo a bicycle. Yeti bicycles will have mountain bikes to take out for a half day to check out the great mountain biking in the area.

    3 Weeks Away to Gran Fondo Moab

    If you are not registered you should do it NOW because hotel rooms in Moab are filling up. If you are not registered by April 15 you WILL NOT get an event t-shirt. All event t-shirts will be ordered after April 15 and we will not be getting more. Lunch is being provided by the Love Muffin Cafe. If you are registered and are a vegetarian  please email me so I can get your panini sandwich on order. There is NO DAY OF registration. Registration is ONLINE only until April 29th till 12 am. After that registration will be closed for the event. Sorry no exceptions.

    If you have not joined our Facebook page please do as we will have more regular updates. The Info/FAQ’s page will also be updated as more details and questions come up. The schedule for the event is now posted. If you have any questions please feel to email us at info@granfondomoab.com

    Recent News:

    *Action Shots will be on hand taking pictures of the ride. They will be at Swanny Park on Saturday during lunch. You can also go to www.moabactionshots.com to see your photos.

    * Love Muffin Cafe will be serving up panini sandwiches for lunch with a side salad. To see their menu go to www.lovemuffincafe.com. Great food.

    * Rolling closed road from Swanny Park (event start) all the way to the Castle Valley turnoff. Neutral start until HWY 128 and then it is game on!

    * Fastest Man and Fastest Woman to the top (Geyser Pass Aid station) will be going home with New wheels. Bontrager wheels for the men and Mavic wheels for the ladies. We are doing this to the top of the climb as we are encouraging you to not take any chances on the downhill. PLEASE BE CAREFUL. We want an accident free event.
